Ann Telnaes
 
Meet Ann Telnaes

Ann Telnaes can't remember when she didn't have a pen in her hand. Her interest in and talent for drawing was obvious by age 6.

Born in Sweden, Ann attended California Institute of the Arts and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, specializing in character animation. Before beginning her career as an editorial cartoonist, Ann worked for several years at Walt Disney Imagineering as a designer. She has also been an animator for various studios in London, Los Angeles, New York and Taiwan.

Ann's editorial cartoons have appeared in such prestigious publications as The Chicago Tribune,The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Newsday, The New York Times, The Baltimore Sun, Austin American Statesman and USA Today.



Ann won the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 2001.
Other awards include: The MAGGIE Award from Planned Parentgood (2002), The National Headliner Award for Editorial Cartoons (1997), Best Cartoonist by the Population Institute XVIIth Global Media Awards (1996), Best Editorial Cartoonist in the Sixth Annual Environmental Media Awards (1996), and Finalist for the National Cartoonists Society Reuben Awards in the editorial cartoon category (1996). Her television appearances include: The Newshour with Jim Lehrer, C-Span, and The Editors, World Affairs Television.
